AbstractThis autobiography describes how: (a) family and education shaped my career; (b) gerontology and gerontechnology became the main focus; (c) I adapted to a career in gerontology after ten years of university teaching and psychological research, and (d) 20+ years of gerontological research combined with my experience in human factors enabled my contributions to the development of gerontechnology. My attitudes were shaped by my early experiences and my love for music. My formal training in experimental psychology and human factors engineering provided the academic basis for my career in gerontology and gerontechnology. However, my career was not a direct result of my training; it started by chance. I could not have written this text if my supervisors had required formal training in aging, human development or human factors engineering. This article is a remake and ten-year update of my previously published autobiography. Keywords: music; psychology; human factors; gerontology; gerontechnology
