AbstractGerontechnology's framework has been formulated in a functional way, with little attention paid to motivation. Abraham H. Maslow's theory of human motivation (1943) can fill this gap with his hierarchy of needs to be fulfilled in the following order: physiological, safety related, social, esteem and 'being' related.Keywords: human motivation; technology use; Maslow
