AbstractThe scientific basics of gerontechnology is one of the main concerns of ISG-Grandmaster Herman Bouma PhD as taught by him in the ISG-Master Classes, and included in this issue of Gerontechnology. Physicist by education, he started his career in vision, reading and related subjects. Around the age of 50 he gradually shifted to gerontechnology, a domain he invented and defined together with Jan Graafmans and the late Tonny Brouwers. Of his around 100 journal publications, about half he wrote in his 3rd life phase, showing his practice of gerontechnology as well as its study.Keywords: vision; gerontechnology; theories and concepts
